Literacy - When I grow up ...

As part of Enterprise week, we think about the big picture of growing up and working in a job. 


Today we talked about what a job helps us to do and what we want to be when we grow up. 

Brodie wants to be a policeman

Miles wants to be a pilot

Dolcie wants to be a teacher

Ryan wants to be a vet

Oliver wants to be a vet

Chloe wants to be a teacher

Keelie wants to be a hair dresser

Finlee wants to be a vet

Nathaniel wants to be a writer

Katy wants to be a vet

Olivia wants to be a swimming teacher

Shinice wants to swimming teacher as well

Lois wants to be a vet

Laurence wants to be metal worker

Faith wants to be a police lady

Sophie wants to be a police lady

Enterprise Week 2012

Today we have been thinking about what Fair Trade means and how it helps farmers and people growing coffee and chocolate beans to be treated the same and fairly. 

We became cocoa farmers for the afternoon and had to work as a team to 'grow' as many beans as possible in the time of 5 mins. 

But ... the people buying the beans (Miss King and Mrs Gibson) were really mean and only took the best beans and the beans that were the right size! 

 Miss King also gave different groups different money for their beans. Unfair! 

Once we had sorted this out, we thought about how children lived in countries where Fair Trade operated. We learnt lots of things about how children live like the don't all wear shoes or go to school and they can't afford to buy toys and expensive game stations!

We think Fair Trade is a good thing! 

Art and Books - Sewing bookmarks

As part of our day we made our own book marks! 

We were learning how to thread a needle, use a simple running stitch and use the tools sensibly and properly. We even had the challenge of sewing objects like buttons and sequins on the decorate our book marks, which some of us found tricky as it used a slightly different stitch. 

Have a look at the pictures and hopefully you will see us using our bookmarks in school and at home with our library books.

World Book Day - our workshop with Kathryn White

Today we celebrated our library launch with a visit from Kathryn White - an author. 

She has written many books and one was called Click Clack Crocodiles back. We had a workshop about this book with Reception class.

We listened and acted out the story and then created our own animals masks, who we found in the story. We had monkeys, flamingos, crocodile and many more!
