Art - painting

In Moscow Base we have started learning about Pirates!

We wanted to know what Pirates wear. So we started by looking in lots of information books to help us find
out the answers.

We compared what pirates wore in the past to what we wear now. It was really interesting and we even noticed that we don't have beards, swords or parrots! We also decided that some clothes that are from the past look old and a bit funny.

We then decided to make our own giant pirates. We had to think about matching colours to the right artifact, using the information from the books and pictures, patterns that we saw and what size brush was the best to use.

They look fantastic!
Watch out for our pirate display outside the classroom.

SEAL - Our class charter

Our Russian flags to show we all agree with our class charter

Starting our Pirate learning

What some great thinking!

We have been starting to think about what we would like to learn about in our topic - PIRATES!

We watched the clip below several times and stopped it in places that we found interesting to look really carefully.
Here are some of our questions:

  • How do they make their boats?
  • What costumes do pirates wear?
  • Where do they get their swords from?
  • What songs do pirates sing?
  • What is pirate treasure?
  • What do pirates do?
  • Why are they so mean?
  • Where do they get treasure from?
Keep your eyes peeled for our top 6 questions and our Pirates day

Exploring Moscow Base

Finding a book to read in read, rest and listen

Sharing a book with friends

Designing our own flags

Building our own flags

Art - textiles and collage

We have been looking at different flags and thinking about how they show we belong to a group or country or club.

As we are Moscow Base we decided that we could show we belong to our class by creating our own Russian flags.

We thought carefully about how to tear the tissue paper and how to glue it so it stayed on. We worked hard at improving things that didn't look that good - like using too much glue or leaving big spaces.

Now we need to add them to our class charter to show that we all agree to how we should learn in Year 1.
